FLOMAX is the most widely accepted branded alpha blocker for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH, an enlarged prostate) in the U.S. The walnut-sized prostate gland surrounds the urethra (the duct that drains the bladder). If the gland becomes enlarged, it can squeeze the urethra, interfering with the flow of urine. This can cause difficulty in starting urination, a weak flow of urine, and the need to urinate urgently or more frequently.
FLOMAX is a medication developed specifically to relieve the symptoms of BPH. It does this by relaxing muscles in the prostate and the neck of the bladder (FLOMAX does not shrink the prostate). This is like releasing a pinched straw, which makes it easier for urine to pass out of the body.
